Commander Update

I AM planning on releasing an update to the Adept's Addendum for the upcoming Commander release. I'm still waiting on spoilers to find out what's new.

Update - 11/15/2015 Sorry everyone, the release of commander 2015 has taken me by surprise, I thought it would not be available until December. I'll be working on an Addendum update non stop to get it out as soon as possible. I'll update this post once it's published.

Update - (A few hours later...) It seems there is only one new keyword and one new mechanic, but I also found that I had missed keywords from previous Commander releases. They are all included now. The publishing process can take up to 24 hours to update, so by this time (3:45pm EST) tomorrow (11/16/2015) the latest additions should be 'live'.

Thanks again, everyone, for your patience and support!

Branching Out

I'm looking for a Print on Demand service that will print on a BCW style storage box. I'm hoping to offer decorated boxes at a low low price. The designs I'm working on now are for the individual colors of magic, eventually I'd like to have several designs available for each color and for each of the guilds and shards.

These designs may also wind up on apparel eventually.

If anyone can help me find a POD that handles inexpensive, quality storage boxes (like the BCW line) please e-mail me at catatcatpress@gmail.com!

Update 11/6/2015 : I've exhausted the options I was able to find. At this time there does not appear to be a service available which could make this line of products as I had hoped. I'll keep turning the idea over, maybe an alternative method will come to me.

Addendum Update for Battle for Zendikar

Just published.... it should be available within 24 hours. Plenty of time to get it prior to pre-release. Some of the new keywords are (at this time) very easy to define, so don't mind the short ones.

I've started settling in to the format of this publication and I'm pretty happy with it, so not much has changed regarding how the book is laid out.

I did include a lot of definitions I used in the 2015 Almanac, so there's more new content than the FIVE NEW KEYWORDS!!! Five!!!!! Awesome sauce....

As always, any suggestions for improving this, or any other MetaCAT Pub are welcome, enjoy!

Adept's Almanac 2015 - now available!

The 2015 Almanac is now available via Amazon and Createspace in print and as an e-book.

I'm very pleased with this project with one exception...
I spent quite a bit of time trying to get rid of some unusual and excessive spacing in the print edition. I did not succeed.
For that, I apologize to you all. I hope you will forgive the few instances of half blank pages in unusual places and that they will not detract from the value of the Almanac's content.

Thanks to all who have supported the Adept series, enjoy the latest!

WIP 9/15

I've been working hard on the Adept's Almanac for ...months? Now it's almost ready to publish. I'm looking at a release date of no later than October first for this one.

Updates for the Addendum are underway. Can you believe there are going to be five new keywords in the next set?!? I love it!!!

Thanks for staying tuned, I'll post again when I've got more news.

New "Loops" Page

I'm adding a new page where we can all contribute by sharing some of the looping combos we've found in the game. This page may be the first inception of what could become a forum, but I'll have to look into that possibility sometime in the future. If anyone has informative links regarding this possibility please leave a comment :)

Addendum - Origins update

There is a new update available now* for the Adept's Addendum, including the latest keywords from Origins as well as a few other minor updates.

Work continues on the Adept's Almanac, I'm hoping to have it ready before the summer ends.

*I just finished uploading the update, Amazon's internal processes can take up to 24 hours to finish making the new edition available. The Table of Contents may display "Dragons of Tarkir Update" as the first chapter for the next few days, a last minute edit that I can not apply until the update is approved (24 hours -ish).

The Adept's Almanac?

Work is underway on a follow up to "Initiate to Adept". I feel like the topics I'm covering are intermediate / expert but I don't want to say that reading a book will make you a master of the game. Instead of a title like Adept to Battlemage or anything like that I'm considering the "Adept's Almanac", suggesting a possible (annual) series or just a guide that will be useful for a long time. I've covered about a dozen topics in the current draft but I want to include a lot more. The problem is- it's kind of tricky to find broad topics when a lot of the intermediate concerns deal only with a few specific cards. Another challenge lies in avoiding the use of WotC's trademarks and other potential IP infringement. Don't be too surprised to hear me talking about the 'quest for the angry hamster lord'!

With a little luck and possibly a few interviews I'm hoping to have the Almanac ready to publish by the time Return to Zendikar is released, if there are a lot of tricky mechanics in the new bloc I will delay the release to include some talk about them.

Thanks for all the support on "Initiate to Adept," and the "Adept's Addendum," I've seen some very encouraging reviews and I'm glad so many people are finding them helpful, I hope they're taking some of the load of teaching the game off of all you veterans and making it easier for everyone to play!

Someone recently ordered a bunch of copies of Initiate to Adept in print, hopefully it was a small comic / game shop. Please let your local shop know about this publication and that it is available at wholesale pricing to retailers via Createspace, help make Magic more accessible! -Thanks!

Initiate to Adept update

Just a small update with a few punctuation fixes, and a revision to the Protection definition, to use the more accurate "Damage" - in the DEBT acronym. I'm not sure how I missed that earlier.

I've been thinking a lot lately about another Adept's guide, making notes, gathering ideas...

Meanwhile hoping to get some Modern Masters soon!

Matchbook Link

Alright, I guess it just takes a little time for the 'behind-the-scenes' action to take place. The paperback version of "Magic: Initiate to Adept" is now available through Amazon Prime for just $6.99, the same price as the Createspace store. If you get the book in print you can also get the e-book (with all those helpful links built-in) for ninety-nine cents through the MatchBook program. As I understand it, you can get the matchbook ANY TIME after you purchase the paperback.

Retailers can also set up a Createspace Direct account to get the paperback at wholesale.

The createspace paperback is available here.
and you can sign up for Createspace Direct here.

Pricing Changes - Initiate to Adept

I've been trying to link the paperback to the amazon store to offer Matchbook (basically, when you buy the paperback you can get the digital version for next to nothing). I wasn't sure how it was going to work and there is a delay on the option to change prices, so I've got two digital versions right now and their priced at $2.99. They are the same book, both are enrolled in Matchbook for .99 cents. I think, the way it works, is if you buy the paperback through Amazon, the matchbook option appears.
So I'm going to check that out and get back to you soon.

Addendum News for Dragons of Tarkir

The Addendum really grew a lot with this update, I hope you find the new information useful! Check out the changes and improvements that are now included:

A Guilds Appendix has been added to the end of the book for easy reference.

Navigation has been updated so you can click on the bold letter that begins each section to return to the quick alphabetical index.

The Table of Contents has been cleaned up, again for easier navigation.

Definitions for the four rarities and some product terminology have been added.

Several of the abilities have been revised to provide more answers to how they work and how to stop them.

The abbreviation NaK, which was previously used to distinguish non-keywords has been removed.

The update section has been moved and now has a heading in the Table of Contents.

Most of the category definitions have been linked to the definitions section.

Categories have been linked back from the definitions to the categories section.

Card types have been added and updated.

The new version was uploaded at @5:30 pm EST on March 17, 2015. It may take up to 48 hours for the update to go 'live' so if you've just picked it up, and the Updates section is not "Chapter 1", take another look in @24 hours.
